PCA
The PCA should have the ability to support individuals with physical and/or mental challenges in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s).
Qualifications
Should meet the following qualifications:
- Must pass a current criminal background study
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Should be at least 18 years of age
- Meet federal and state required training and orientation provided by the agency
- Complete competency test and turned in before receiving first paycheck
- Flexible and reliable
Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
ADL’s include but are not limited to:
- Bathing: start to finish shower with verbal and/or physical assistance
- Dressing: assistance with applying/changing clothes
- Grooming: includes hair care, assistance with shaving, and other tasks related to body care
- Toileting: bowel/bladder care
- Transfers: assist with moving from one area or another
- Mobility: assist with moving from one place to another
- Positioning: adjusting a person’s body position for comfort, care, and relieving pressure areas
- Eating: support as needed with getting food into the body
- Light housing as it pertains to personal care
Integrity
- Promote health, independence, safety, and quality of life for each individual
- Respect the individual’s home and property
- Maintain confidentiality
- Respect the individual’s rights/Bill of Rights
- Maintain a polite, courteous, and kind attitude towards individual, family, visitors, and other staff
